A quick note on tipping
In the US, table service usually gets 15% to 20%, and 20% is a safe default for a good meal out. Counter service and takeout are more of a judgment call, and rounding up is perfectly normal there. Whatever you choose, this tool just runs the numbers so nobody at the table has to do mental arithmetic after dinner.
Tip is calculated on the amount you enter, so tip before or after tax as you prefer.
Common questions
How much should I tip?
For table service, 15% to 20% is the norm, with 20% common for good service. Counter service and takeout are up to you.
Before or after tax?
Either works and the gap is tiny. This tool tips on whatever number you enter.
